Introduction

This guide demonstrates the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedure for the John Deere 844K-III Aggregate Handler.

  1. Move the machine to a safe area. The area must be flat.
    • Move the machine to a safe area.

    • Make sure the bucket (or forks) are lowered.

    • Level the bucket (or forks) to the ground.

  2. Apply parking brake Turn off Lights Remove seat belt.
    • Apply parking brake

    • Turn off Lights

    • Remove seat belt.

  3. Use all four points of contact when exiting the cab. Both hands on handrails.
    • Use all four points of contact when exiting the cab.

    • Both hands on handrails.

    • Both feet on steps.

    • Apply wheel chocks.

    • Move the battery switch to the disconnect position.

    • Lock out the battery disconnect.

  4. Attempt to start the vehicle with the ignition switch.
    • Attempt to start the vehicle with the ignition switch.

    • Motor Should NOT Start.

    • If motor starts, return to Step 4.

    • Wrap the lockout cable from the door handle to the hand-rail.

    • Sign the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Form.

    • Attach the JHA and a Warning Notice to the machine.

    • Lock the JHA & Warning notice.

  5. Put all three lockout keys and ignition key (if applicable) into safe storage.

  6. Use safety cones to mark a perimeter around the machine.
    • Use safety cones to mark a perimeter around the machine.

    • Ensure a perimeter is set from 10' front to back of the machine.

    • Perform the Circle of Safety

    • Ensure wheel chocks are secure

    • Ensure all locks are secure

    • Ensure battery is disconnected

    • The machine is now safely Locked Out and Tagged Out.
